RIA MAYA EXPEDITION

Your adventure begins with a visit to the colonial Mayan town of Tizimin, where your tour guide will help you experience the history of the village, the cultural aspects of the town such as the local marketplace where you can shop, and the majesty of the grand cathedral that dominates the square.

After a delicious authentic Mayan lunch, cooked at a locally owned and run restaurant, the exploration of Rio Lagartos will begin.  We'll take a 3 hour boat trip through the mangrove-lined waterways, while your tour guide helps you spot and identify numerous varieties of wildlife, such as flamingos, cranes, pelicans, crocodiles, and much more.  There are over 375 different types of birds that inhabit these secluded waterways.

Before the end of the tour, we'll engage in a Mayan purification ceremony, called bano maya, where we'll bathe in the natural salt baths, followed by a unique mud bath that will leave you cleansed and pure.  This is a different type of tour, one for experiencing the natural and cultural wonders of Mayaland.
