About Chichen Itza

At over 1500 years old, Chichen Itza is incredibly well preserved, and the architectural prowess and advanced astronomy of the Mayan Empire is perhaps better evidenced at Chichen Itza than at any other Mayan Ruins site in the Yucatan. Our Advice

If you only visit one Mayan Ruins site this trip to Playa del Carmen, this should be it. A must for first-time visitors to the Mayan Riviera, there is only one Chichen Itza; no wonder it's considered the capital of the Mayan world!

Make sure to bring a hat and some strong Biodegradable Sunscreen because it can get really hot during the summer months.

You'll definitely want a guided tour of the ruins site - it's one thing to look at the ruins, it's quite another to hear about the history, the architecture, and the culture of the people who lived here, as well as the legends and the description of the temples.

Bring some reading material with you or other entertainment, Chichen Itza is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Playa del Carmen. Have a great time!
