TOURS TO EK BALAM FROM THE MAYAN RIVIERA
Ek Balam is the least visited of the four major Mayan Ruins sites in the Riviera Maya. This means it's also the least crowded, so you can really relax and enjoy your experience there and even get plenty of photographs without hundreds of other tourists in them. It is very well preserved and well worth a visit, plus it is the only ruins site except Coba where you can still climb the main pyramid.

About Ek Balam and our Tours
Ek Balam is located about 2.5 hours drive from the Riviera Maya, just 35 miles from Chichen Izta. It is also located near the vast wetland preserve of Rio Lagartos and it's famed pink salt baths, which makes it perfect for a combo tour with either of these sites. Ek Balam takes only a couple hours to explore thoroughly, but we highly recommend to take a guided tour there because there is so much to learn, and the guides at the ruins are very informative.
Ek Balam dates back as far as 100 B.C., growing to it's peak around 1000 A.D., and beginning to decline about 1200 A.D. Serious excavation on the Ek Balam site only began in 1987, so there are still many uncovered portions of the ruins site in existence today. The ruins site's biggest pyramid is called The Acropolis, which is a tomb for one of the Mayan Empire's most famous kings.
