Xel Ha is famous for it's dolphin swim activities, where you can interact with them, some of the activities you can do with dolphins are: foot-push, handshakes, kisses, hugs and more! they will do tricks you. The dolphin swim takes place in the natural lagoon. Xel-Ha is one of the best snorkeling destinations in Cancun for snorkeling. Besides dolphins you can also enjoy great activities such as cliff diving, rope swing, and a great beach where you can lay under the sun and relax. Also you can visit a small ruins site across the street from the park.

We recommend you book the Xel-Ha All-Inclusive tour, with this option you can really see and experience Xel-Ha in all it's magnificent glory. The Xel-Ha Tulum Combo is a good way to get to see the Tulum ruins, especially if you have kids who will get too bored if they have to look at ruins all day long, but it does leave you wishing you had more time there. The best option you can opt for is to book a private tour, this option will help you maximize your time at the park.

Now if you are interested in Xel Ha dolphin swims, you need to ensure that there will be space reserved when you get there, so we highly recommend you reserve online well in advance. Dolphin swims are very popular activities, and Xel Ha offers only about 50 slots a day for the thousands of daily visitors to this park. If you do the swim, there will be videos and photos for you to purchase afterward if you like (we recommend this - a great memory).

Prices are higher if you buy individually. Interax is the only activity that doesn't take place in deep water where you're actually swimming with the dolphins.

If are not sure if you want to visit Xel-Ha or Xcaret, here are some thoughts about it, if you are a first-time visitor and if you are are more active and like to see a variety of things, and also have kids you can choose Xcaret. But if you are planning to do some snorkeling and relaxing, then Xel-Ha is great. Regarding the dolphin swims, they are the same at both parks. Also keep in mind that snorkeling is usually better in the morning before all the silt gets kicked up, and that you will need to bring biodegradable sun block or purchase it at the park.

HOW TO GET TO XEL-HA:

Xel-Ha is located 76 miles (122km) south of Cancun, just 8 miles (13km) from the Mayan Ruins of Tulum on the east side of the Carraterra Chetumal. The close proximity makes this an easy combination to visit in a single day. The vast majority of visitors to Xel-Ha go with a tour like those suggested above. This is by far the easiest and most convenient way to get there - it even includes hotel pickup and drop-off.

For the independent traveler, you can also rent a car, take a taxi, or catch a collectivo from Cancun. The Collectivo will let you off the highway by the Xel-Ha sign. Taking a taxi from Playa Del Carmen will set you back about $30 each way, from Cancun will cost more like $75 each way. The collectivo will cost just a few dollars but of course is by far the least convenient method of transport.
